The treatises argue in favour of the making and veneration of images and suggest that because matter is divinely created and indwelled, it is inherently good. One set of Christian texts that portrays the material world in a positive way is the Three Treatises on the Divine Images by John of Damascus. Ecological theology endorses the importance of viewing the created world kindly and benevolently. ![]() Abstract: Ecologically related discourse generally argues that changed human behaviour is necessary for addressing the environmental crisis and that a view that the natural world is worthy and essentially good encourages people to live sustainably. ![]() 6/10/2023 0 Comments Witches by rosalyn schanzer![]() ![]() The interplay between the primary source accounts and the stylistic illustrations creates a well-balanced story that conveys emotion and fact. ![]() These illustrations are dramatic depictions of the themes that run throughout the book, portraying the division between community members, the various allusions to the Devil and contracts signed with him, and the violence and sadness of accusations that took peoples’ lives. The most stunning feature, despite the humanistic and thrilling tale of the Salem Witch Trials, are the scratchboard illustrations found throughout the book. At the front of the book is a collection of portraits portraying a stylized face of each of the characters of the story, giving them personalities and providing contextual clues for readers who might have trouble remembering such an expansive cast. This book presents the compelling stories of the victims of accused witches, the accused witches, and the hysterical town residents that propelled the Salem Witch Trials to their infamous end. ![]() This book is striking at first glance the black-white-and-red scratchboard illustration on the cover presents the duality of the Salem Witch Trials, which pitted people against their communities by aligning them with the Devil. ![]() 6/10/2023 0 Comments The crossfire series![]() ![]() She presents workshops for writing groups and has been a speaker at events such as the RT Booklovers Convention, Romance Writers of America's National Convention, and Comic-Con. Its first fans were my undergraduate classmates who would jump at the sight of my lunch box and cajole me to part with sizeable portions of my fried rice in exchange for their lunch. This one took shape long before my student days in the U.S.….it was actually born out of my very early cooking efforts as a hungry teenager home alone. This dish happens to be one of my all-time favorites: easy to whip up, minimal waiting time, inexpensive ingredients, low on calories and yet high on flavor without any spice. Remove the omelet from pan, garnish with chopped olives and cheese while still hot. Ensure low heat is maintained or you may end up with a burnt omelet. Cover the pan and cook till omelet fluffs up. Add a few drops of oil along the sides of the pan. Reduce flame and pour the beaten eggs over this. ![]() ![]() Mix in the steamed vegetables and sausages and sauté for couple of minutes. She is currently living in a house she owns with her apparent girlfriend and is afraid of being seen with her and her new boss at the Black media company she works for is sexist as anything. ![]() What is at least clear is how the comic demonstrates all of the pressures on Abbott. Unfortunately, it’s just totally unclear. The issue opens with what I assume are Umbra discussing a nefarious plot and sharing in their disdain for Abbott on account of her Lightbringer power and some things she did in the previous series. While the issue begins with a recap of the original Abbott series, it does little to explain what is going on in this world, what the Umbra are, and what the Lightbringer is, I appreciate that it’s at least something. ![]() Elena Abbott is an ace journalist who gained the bears the Lightbringer and must use it to fight against the Umbra. However, as chapters descend in numerical order and reverse chronology, it becomes increasingly clear that Jule is an unreliable narrator the deceptive likes of which many readers won’t be prepared for. ![]() She’s strong and tough enough to defend herself (and then some), intelligent, and intuitive a feminist who contemplates gender persecution in society and in the hero tales she thinks herself worthy of: “women were rarely the centers of such stories…they were eye candy, arm candy, victims, or love interests…they existed to help the great white hetero hero on his fucking epic journey.” And Jule shows an endearing softness as we learn about her friendship with beautiful, wealthy Imogen, whom Jule misses dearly.
